You Came Here to Die, Didn’t You won Honorable Mention at the San Francisco Book Festival in May of 2011.
Parts of the book have received the following awards:
- “In the Beginning” won first place for the first chapter of a non-fiction book from the Friends of the Sacramento Public Library Focus on Writers contest in 2009.
- In 2006 “We Don’t Serve Colored Here” won third place in the same contest, but the category was best non-fiction essay.
- Sherie’s first win was with “A Line in the Sand,” which won first place in the Focus on Writers contest in 2005. Category: best non-fiction essay. This story became the lead story in Chicken Soup for the African American Woman’s Soul.
All three essays are part of my book, You Came Here to Die, Didn’t You.
