125 years late, Chinese lawyer admitted to bar: STATE’S TOP COURT SAYS IT ERRED IN 1890 RULING

Lest it seems like I only write about black Americans, here is an article about the plight of the Chinese in California.  I think the Chinese were the first group to be legally discriminated against in here.  The Chinese Exclusion Act was the first law implemented to prevent a specific ethnic group from immigrating to the United States.

Acknowledging a “sordid chapter” in state history, the California Supreme Court ruled Monday that a Chinese immigrant denied the right to practice law 125 years ago because of his race should be licensed posthumously.  See more
