The book is The Warmth of Other Suns by Isabel Wilkerson. She is the first black woman in American History to win a Pulitzer Prize. The book is about the Great Migration from 1915 to 1975 when hundreds of thousands of black Americans left the South for the “safety” of the North. The book is based on interviews as well as other research. Three migraters, a woman and two men, from three southern states travel North and West. The book follows their stories and teaches so much history about a period of time that is not covered at any depth in schools.
If you have ever wondered how much better the North was from the South and the world of slavery, read this book. If you have ever wondered why northern blacks seem so angry, read this book. If you think the North was an improvement, read this book. Not only is it great and important history, it is a “can’t put it down” read.
